St. Helena

St. Helena is one of the most remote inhabited islands on Earth, a volcanic speck in the South Atlantic best known as the place where Napoleon was exiled and died. His former residence, Longwood House, and his original tomb site remain preserved and open to visitors. The island's rugged, green interior and dramatic coastal cliffs are largely unknown outside a small circle of travelers, especially since a commercial airport opened after decades of access only by mail ship. Tourism remains tiny and slow-paced, which is much of its appeal.
