Puerto Rico packs an enormous range into a small island. Old San Juan's cobblestone streets and centuries-old Spanish fortresses give way to the misty, waterfall-laced trails of El Yunque rainforest, and at night, boat trips glide across bioluminescent bays that glow electric blue with every paddle stroke. Salsa spills out of open doorways in the capital, roadside kiosks sell fried snacks along the coast, and beaches from Culebra to Rincón range from calm and turquoise to serious surf breaks.
