Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island is a small, green speck in the Pacific with a history as unusual as its scenery. Its population largely descends from Pitcairn Islanders who resettled here in the 1850s, carrying on Bounty-mutineer surnames and a distinct dialect still heard around the island. Towering Norfolk pines line dramatic coastal bluffs, and the ruins of a former penal colony at Kingston add a somber historical layer.
