French Southern Territories

The French Southern Territories are a scattering of subantarctic islands — Kerguelen, Crozet, Amsterdam, St. Paul — with no permanent population beyond rotating teams of scientists and support staff. There is no civilian tourism and no way to visit independently; access is controlled entirely by the French state for research and logistics. What makes the islands remarkable is their isolation and wildlife: vast colonies of king penguins, albatrosses, and elephant seals thrive undisturbed on some of the most weather-battered land on Earth.
