Pitcairn Islands

Pitcairn is about as far from anywhere as a place can be — a speck of volcanic rock in the South Pacific, reachable only by an infrequent supply ship that takes days to arrive. Its roughly four dozen residents are largely descendants of the HMS Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian companions, who settled here in 1790 seeking a hideout from the Royal Navy. Almost no one visits; there's no airstrip and no hotel industry. What draws the rare traveler is exactly that: a genuinely untouched outpost with one of the most remarkable survival stories in Pacific history.
