Guinea-Bissau
Guinea-Bissau
Guinea-Bissau is defined by the Bijagos Archipelago, a scatter of low, mangrove-fringed islands where hippos wade in saltwater lagoons and sea turtles nest on quiet beaches largely undisturbed by mass tourism. The mainland mixes Portuguese colonial architecture in Bissau with a patchwork of ethnic communities and animist traditions still practiced alongside daily life. Tourism infrastructure is minimal and travel here takes patience, but the islands remain one of West Africa's least-altered corners.
