Germany

Germany
Germany moves from the fairy-tale castles and beer gardens of Bavaria to the raw, gallery-and-nightclub energy of Berlin, with medieval half-timbered towns and Rhine river valleys filling in the middle. Regional food and beer traditions vary sharply by state, from Bavarian pretzels and wheat beer to Berlin's currywurst stalls, and a dense rail network makes it easy to string together very different atmospheres. Christmas markets in December add a cozy, lantern-lit layer to nearly every city.
