The Republic of the Congo is dominated by dense equatorial rainforest, much of it protected within parks like Nouabalé-Ndoki, home to western lowland gorillas and forest elephants rather than tour buses. The Congo River shapes daily life and transport, and riverside Brazzaville faces its far larger neighbor, Kinshasa, directly across the water. Tourism infrastructure is limited and travel takes real planning, but the rainforest wildlife-tracking on offer is rare and largely untouched by mass visitation.
