Guinea sees relatively few travelers, which is part of why its landscapes feel so untouched: the forested highlands of the Fouta Djallon plateau, cut by waterfalls and red dirt roads, and a steamy Atlantic coastline anchored by the port capital, Conakry. Traditional music runs deep here, from griot storytelling traditions to the percussion that shaped much of West African rhythm. Travel infrastructure is limited, so visits tend to be slower-paced and organized around local guides rather than set itineraries.
